Aeroplan partners with SEE Change Magazine with a special giveaway to celebrate 10-year-anniversary of its Member Donation Program

Aeroplan’s much-beloved Member Donation program (formerly Beyond Miles) is turning the big 1-0! To celebrate this significant milestone, SEE Change has teamed up with Aeroplan for a special 10 for 10-year-anniversary giveaway just in time for the holidays.

How it Works

To enter the contest, simply send us a tweet (@SEEChangemag) or email (info@seechangemagazine.com) between November 28 and December 20 with the name of one Aeroplan charity partner to whom you’d like to donate 10,000 Aeroplan Miles. We’ll draw the winning name on December 21st.  If chosen, you’ll be helping a highly respected Canadian organization receive much-needed support, an especially important gift during the holidays. In return for your help, you’ll automatically win 10,000 Aeroplan Miles too. Talk about a win-win!

The Program

Designed to help organizations offset the costs of travel, the Aeroplan Member Donation program launched in 2006 with 100% of all Aeroplan Miles donated by Members going directly to its partner organizations. Today the program includes ten outstanding Canadian nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving lives and enriching communities at home and around the world: David Suzuki FoundationEngineers Without BordersEnactus, WeMédecins Sans Frontières, MusiCounts, the Stephen Lewis FoundationVeterinarians Without Borders, War Child Canada and The Air Canada Foundation.

The program’s achievements to date are certainly worthy of a celebration. In 2016 alone, Aeroplan donated 500,000 miles to each of its partner organizations.

“We’re proud to be celebrating our 10th anniversary of the Aeroplan member donation program,” said Alden Hadwen, director of community engagement at Aeroplan. “More than 588 million miles have now been donated through the generosity of our members since May 2006, and Aeroplan has donated over 300 million miles to join in that support. Our partners would not be able to meet some of their goals without the support of Aeroplan Miles.  Every donated mile has a major impact to each of our ten partners and over 300 charitable accounts.”

What’s New?

The first program of its kind to allow an online donation of loyalty currency to be deposited directly into accounts of charities, today the initiative also allows Aeroplan to support community initiatives in even bigger ways. Each charitable donation made through the Aeroplan member donation program will be topped up by a 10% contribution from Aeroplan. This applies for all donations to all accounts, all the time.  (For example if you donate 1,000 miles to War Child, Aeroplan will add 100 miles.)

What’s more, the program allows members to use Aeroplan Miles to support more than 300 registered community charities or provide travel assistance for people and their families with medical or other emergencies. An account is established in the name of the charity, which enables them to pool donated Aeroplan Miles at no cost. Examples of organizations include: Oceans Initiative, Rainbow Railroad, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation of Ontario, Canada’s National Ballet School  (To donate, visit: www.aeroplan.com/donate).

Aeroplan offsets 100 per cent of all carbon emissions from flights taken by Beyond Miles partners using donated miles. And it offers a 2 per cent option too. Instead of just donating to 10 partner accounts, members can now automatically donate 2 per cent of all miles at time of accumulation to 25 organizations including, Give a Mile, Art Canada Institute, Oceans Initiative, Ballet Jorgen Canada, Prostate Cancer Canada, The Children’s Wish Foundation – ON, Canadian Roots Exchange and Breakfast Club of Canada Leadership Camps.
