From Bridging to Bonding:

Examining the social enterprise research-practice continuum

Mount Royal University and Simon Fraser University

in collaboration with the Social Enterprise World Forum

Date: October 1, 2013

Location: Mount Royal University, Calgary

The Institute for Nonprofit Studies at Mount Royal University and Simon Fraser University are co‐hosting a research day in collaboration with the Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF‐2013). We want to take advantage of researchers and practitioners who will be coming to Calgary from around the world to explore the multiple connections between social enterprise research and practice.

Too often practitioners and researchers find themselves on either side of a linguistic, technical, and cultural divide. Yet it must be acknowledged that practice draws on research findings and research rarely occurs in isolation from practice. How then can this relationship be explored in a way that honours the contribution of both researchers and practitioners? This dedicated research day will provide the opportunity for the presentation and discussion of research case studies; research partnerships; educational programs and workshops; collaborative evidence‐based policy development; and research‐based studies on social enterprise operations, financing, or governance.

If you are interested in participating, please submit a title, an abstract of 250 words and complete contact information to Peter R. Elson: pelson@mtroyal.ca by March 31st, 2013.

Proposals are encouraged from academics, policy makers and collaborating practitioners. Limited funds will be available to support eligible speaker participation in this conference. All proposals will be subject to peer review and notification of acceptance will be provided by April 30th 2013.
