Did you now that approximately 170 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastics sit in the ocean today and that around 8 to 10 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean each year? One organization, based in British Columbia, Canada, is doing its part to combat plastic pollution through a number of initiatives. The team at Ocean Legacy Foundation is focused on cleaning up the oceans, diverting plastic from landfills, educating the public, informing policy, catalyzing innovative solutions and producing recycled plastic products to help fund and support their ultimate goal.

It’s a daunting task – and we explore it further with the co-founder of Ocean Legacy – next.

Welcome to In the Business of Change, where we speak with social entrepreneurs and changemakers impacting their communities and the world. I’m your host Elisa Birnbaum publisher and editor in chief of SEE Change Magazine.

On today’s episode we speak with Chloé Dubois, co-founder and executive director of Ocean Legacy. In our conversation, we explore the solutions her organization developed in response to the problem of plastic pollution – including transforming post-consumer plastic into valuable resources. Chloé shares the seemingly intractable challenges she and others face trying to combat plastic waste, challenges made all the more frustrating by the inaction of leaders worldwide. Finally, we discuss the importance of meeting in the middle, coming together despite differences, to move the needle of change forward.
