In November, Toronto for Acumen held Dignity in Focus, a photo-auction benefiting Acumen Fund and held in partnership with Nuru Project. We are thrilled to announce that the event raised $10,000 and drew in a crowd of 180 people interested in learning more about Acumen Fund’s investing model. Toronto for Acumen is now an official Acumen Fund chapter, joining New YorkSan FranciscoChicago and Dubai.

We partnered with Streamline Media, who put together a beautiful video to document the planning of our event and the Dignity in Focus night.

In one night, Toronto for Acumen auctioned off 29 photographs donated by Nuru Project. Each photograph was taken in locations where Acumen Fund invests – India, Kenya, Pakistan and East and South Africa – and portrayed a diversity of issues, cultures and landscapes. The energy of the crowd was truly a reflection of Toronto as a city – diverse, engaged and interested in cross-cultural crossroads.

Our live DJ, Mista Jiggz, set the tone to the night with captivating and vibrant beats. Thanks to our sponsors – Red Rose, Cadbury, Ben and Jerry’s, Maynards, Colourgenics Inc., and IX Gallery (the host of our venue) – Dignity in Focus was a sublime stage for Nuru Project’s photographs that brought to life Acumen Fund’s message that poor people seek dignity, not dependence. Photographs of the event can be viewed on our Facebook page.
